For the past two years I have served on the Board of Directors for Community Action of Ventura County with Dr. Aguirre serving as Board President. During that time there have been a number of difficult issues that have come before the Board related to personnel, fiscal responsibility, and organizational direction. Resolution of these issues required leadership that was thoughtful, reflective, objective and focused on overall goals. Dr. Aguirre provided such leadership throughout Board discussions and work with staff.
As Board President Dr. Aguirre has worked with other Board members and staff to lead Community Action to a position where the focus and energy of the Board and staff are directed towards fulfilling the organization’s mission. This is not an easy task where there are such diverse views represented on the Board, views from Board members that include private sector business, public sector services, and low income groups. As a direct result of Dr. Aguirre’s thoughtful analysis and focus on issues, Community Action has moved to a position of sound fiscal stability with a talented, motivated staff all who are working towards common goals. Community Action is now a recognized leader in anti-poverty work and energy and resource conservation in the county. The organization has received awards for its recent work from political leaders and civic organizations.
