I have known Maria Blanco for approximately 30 years, having met her at Boalt Law School in 1980. Her intelligence, personal and professional integrity, exceptional communication skills, and experience as a consensus-builder make her uniquely qualified to serve on this commission. She is not only familiar with the Voting Rights Act, but understands the purpose of the Act. It is essential that this commission include members from the Los Angeles area and, more importantly, representatives from the Latino community. Maria Blanco’s familiarity with redistricting and her understanding of California demographics will also be an asset to this commission.
