Selected Members of the Citizens Redistricting Commission,
To say that Maria Blanco is an excellent candidate for the CRC is an understatement. She is an essential candidate. I’m sure I’m not the only one who will write to tell you of Maria Blanco’s working knowledge of the Voting Rights Act and prior experience in redistricting issues. I’m sure I’m not the only one who will point out that she balances the commission, being Latina, and the sole resident of Los Angeles amongst the remaining candidates. What may be more ineffable to convey, and which I know from personal knowledge, is that Maria Blanco is a mitigating, focusing and calming presence in a group dynamic. Her insight is matched by a magnanimity of spirit that makes her a joy to work with. That she is profoundly qualified for the position is unquestionable but to be honest, if I were going to be shut up in a room for weeks deciding tough issues, there’s no one I’d rather tough it out with. I respectfully urge you to do yourselves a favor and grab the opportunity to work with this remarkable woman.
