I believe Dr. Michael Ward would be an extremely well qualified individual for the Redistricting Committee to fairly evaluate material presented and determine what is best for the entire State. He would be an asset to the Committee because he is exceptionally bright and has diverse interests which have lead him to interact with people from all walks of life. No matter the person he is with, he listens carefully, communicates effectively, and in each situation, treats everyone with respect. Because the Redistricting Commission has such an important role, it is crucial that the members of the Commission see beyond personal differences to make educated, fair decisions. I believe Dr. Ward demonstrates all the qualities necessary to work with the Commission to develop consensus in conflicting situations and help bring them to a successful conclusion.
As a teacher, I always try to impress upon the students the importance of taking our role in the government process seriously. Therefore, I feel it my responsibility to recommend a person like Dr. Ward who understands that process and will use it fairly. Michael Ward is one who understands the importance of non-partisanship in drawing district lines. He is interested in maintaining the strength and diversity of California and preserving our individual voice in the electoral process. Dr. Ward takes initiative, puts his whole heart in every endeavor in which he is involved, and holds himself to the highest standards. He has the skills based on his educational and varied professional background to process information and synthesize it to make it manageable. His ability to communicate and act as a coordinator and leader when necessary would also benefit the group at large.
It is because of these personal qualities, belief in the redistricting process to fairly represent all people, his communication skills, and his work ethic that he would take the responsibility seriously and seek fairness to all. Dr. Ward is a man of integrity who will serve as an excellent representative of the people of California and will be an asset to the Commission.
